First Lady to Promote Healthy Living

First lady Anita Smith launches her healthy living campaign this week, during Bike Month Kick-off day May 3 at Shadyside Park beginning 6 p.m. Smith leads the Mayor’s Ball and Beautification committee, both responsible for fundraising and coordinating community clean-ups and beautification projects throughout Anderson. Smith is scheduled to lead several healthy living events over the spring and summer seasons.

“The idea is to promote an environment conducive to a healthier style of living.” says Anita Smith. “Last year, we were involved in several clean-up projects, fundraised and funded multiple flower bed plantings and hanging flower baskets throughout Anderson, and participated in a handful of marathon events. It is our intent to lead by example and to continue these efforts in 2013.”

Smith, an avid bike rider, focuses on bringing life quality back into the community. Last year’s Mayor’s Ball proceeds funded hanging flower baskets, materials for community clean-up events, and traffic island bulb plantings, an initiative continued into 2013. Smith’s beautification committee is determined to raise proceeds this year geared towards gateway improvements and community fountain sites.
